Quality and Safety
In addition to the mandatory International Safety Management Code (ISM) requirements (which are required for safety and environmental protection policies and practices), Euronav has achieved ISO 9001 Standard certification and ISO standard 14001. The ISO 9001 Standard is a voluntary standard for Quality Management Systems while the ISO 14001 Standard is a voluntary standard for Environmental Management Systems. Training is organized both ashore and on board our vessels to raise awareness and improve the behavior of our seafarers on safety, quality environmental and ecological parameters. Euronav vessles have also been awarded and earned the United States Coast Guard "Qualiship" distinction. Less than 10% of foreignflagged ships that operate in the U.S. have earned the "Qualiship" designation. Among these are 13 Euronav vessels.
Handling of Emergencies
A wide range of possible emergencies has been identified in the Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental protection (HSQE) Management System. To deal with possible emergencies the following plans have been prepared: Emergency & Contingency Manual (ECM) dealing with all possible emergencies except for all polution Ship Oil Pollution Plan (SOPEP) dealing with oil pollution emergencies Vessel Response Plan (VRP) dealing with oil pollution emergencies in US waters (as required by US law - OPA 90).
Regular training and drills on shore and at sea prepare our staff to respond to all emergencies As a minimum at least once a year a full scale Table Top Exercice (TTX) is executed. This exercice involves a wide range of parties such as, but not limited to, the vessels, the office emergency team, the flag state authorities, the classification society of the vessels, cleanup contractors, media response, etc.
