Euronav ‘Highly Commended’ as Tanker Operator of the Year
On 28 September 2016 Euronav was awarded ‘Highly Commended’ in the category Tanker Operator of the Year by Lloyd’s List during the Lloyd's List Global Awards 2016 ceremony at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London.
According to Lloyd’s List the judges were looking to award a company that has shone brightly and has been able to demonstrate first class performance whether operationally or financially in a 12 months period between July 2015 and June 2016.
Reacting to the news of receiving the award, Euronav CEO Paddy Rodgers said: "Being named ‘Highly Commended’ in the category Lloyd’s List Tanker Operator of the Year is a great honor. Euronav has undertaken a number of sector leading initiatives resulting in very good results, the start of a marketing joint venture bringing together over 40 Suezmax vessels, the further adoption of the highest corporate governance standards in the past year and reducing the number of incidents to a record low.”
On the tanker market, Euronav proved to be leading by example by a further consolidation of the tanker sector. On 2 June 2016 Euronav started Suezmax Chartering, a commercial joint venture with Diamond S Management LLC and Frontline Ltd, bringing together over 40 Suezmax vessels which should improve transparency on the market.
The Company has also developed the highest corporate governance standards in the past year by appointing a new Independent Chairman, transitioning the Board of Directors to a balanced female representation (3 out of 8) and adding new members with complimentary skill sets resulting in a Board composed of 75% independent members.
