FSO Africa - 5 years LTI free
“The only good job is the job done safely”. And that is exactly what the crew on the FSO Africa did. On 28 May 2017 they celebrated five years or about 1.4 million man-hours without Lost Time Injury (LTI). A milestone that could only be achieved by devoting great attention to safety on board. We asked the captains of the FSO Africa to share with us what contributed to this milestone.
“The FSO Africa is located offshore Qatar, and the work there has many challenges to overcome. From the harsh hot environment, continuous crude oil loading, frequent discharging operations, increased number of equipment and machinery to the interaction with other units and contractors on the Al Shaheen oil field. Every action requires a positive mindset and behavior towards safety to accomplish a successful performance”, the captains explained.
“Of course the crew and officers can count on the support from the Euronav Management and all shore staff. Besides that, our client Maersk Oil Qatar also takes safety initiatives such as “Incident Free” and “Duty to Intervene” which helps us to increase safety awareness”.
“Even if the crew is 100% committed, managing safety is never an easy task. The actions we all take on a daily basis to identify and mitigate hazards in our work sites are very important. On top of that all crew members have a responsibility for their own and others safety and with that in mind the ultimate goal is to get everyone home safely to their loved ones.”
